USI administration comprises of different services and it is under the Rectorate responsibility, specifically under the responsibility of the Secretary General and the Administrative Director, and through the Rectorate, under the University Council. Services offered on Mendrisio Campus are coordinated by the Adjunct Administrative Director (Academy Administrator).
Administrative functions are almost entirely carried out by the administrative staff, librarians, technicians and auxiliary staff. Sometimes the administrative duties such as study programmes management or administration of the Institutes are carried out by the intermediate staff.
Albino Zgraggen (1949) is USI Secretary General and Administrative Director of the Lugano Campus. He graduated in Modern and Contemporary History with a minor in Latin Language and Literature, from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Fribourg (1977). He was an History and Italian teacher at the cantonal junior high school in Viganello (1970-1974) and Italian and Economy teacher at the Scuola professionale commerciale di Viganello (commercial high school; 1975-1976). After earning a teaching degree for high school (1977), he was a professor at the Commercial Cantonal School (SCC), where he also had been Director from 1988 to 1996. He joined USI since the very beginning in 1996: at first as Director of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and Economics, then he has become Administrative Director of Lugano Campus (1999-2017) and General Secretary of the University (1999-). He participates in the University Council sessions without voting rights.
Cristina Largader (1966, Swiss citizen) holds a degree in Business Adminstration, obtained in 1992 at Bocconi University in Milan. In 2002, she joined the Fondazione Cardiocentro Ticino as Head of Finance and Management Accounting, and, in 2011, she was appointed Deputy Director. In her role at the Cardiocentro Ticino, Ms Largader implemented a series of new and more efficient processes in several units of the clinic, including the reorganisation of human resources management which contributed to making the Cardiocentro one of the best employers in Switzerland. Previously, Ms Largader was, among other roles, Head of Management Accounting at the Aziende Industriali (AIL) of the City of Lugano (1997-1999) and, from 1999 to 2002, Deputy Director of the Finance Department at the Public administration of the Canton Ticino. As of July 2017, Cristina Largader is the Administrative Director of USI.
Deputy Administrative Director (Academy of Architecture General Manager)
Antoine Turner (1963) is Adjunct Administrative Director of USI and General Manager of the Mendrisio campus (Administrator of the Academy of Architecture), since December 2002. In this function, he is in charge of the administration of academic studies (admissions, management and organisation of courses, examinations and students, and academic mobility), of the front desk, of human resources, of campus logistics, and of finances (budget and accountancy). He graduated in Economics at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), with a major in Finance and Accountancy and a dissertation on international marketing. From 1986 to 2002, he was employed in the corporate sector in financial and administrative management positions.
