Title of doctoral dissertation: Investigating Leadership Emergence using Longitudinal Leadership Networks
Description: To explore the social process of leadership emergence, i.e., the process during which some individuals are recognised as leaders by the rest of the group although they do not have any formal authority. Cécile is particularly interested in understanding how, and to which extend, emotional intelligence and leadership self-perceptions affect the emergence of leaders. To conduct her investigations, she represent leadership as a network, where nodes stand for actors and a tie between actor i and actor j signifies that actor i nominated actor j as a leader. In this sense, nodes which receive higher number of ties denote the emergent leaders in a particular group. When tracked over time, leadership networks can be modelled using the latest techniques in longitudinal analysis of network data (SIENA).
