Biography
Benedetto Lepori (Lugano 1965) si è laureato in fisica presso l¿Università di Roma Tor Vergata nel 1988; ha lavorato come consulente politico e nel campo della ricerca prospettiva e della valutazione dell¿impatto delle tecnologie sulla società, in particolare per il Consiglio Svizzero della Scienza; è stato esperto nazionale presso il programma di prospettiva tecnologica della Commissione europea a Bruxelles. Per il Consiglio Svizzero della scienza ha diretto la valutazione dell¿impatto socio-economico della liberalizzazione del mercato delle telecomunicazioni in Svizzera. Dal 1997 è responsabile del Servizio ricerca dell¿Università della Svizzera italiana. Ha ottenuto il dottorato in scienze della comunicazione con una tesi sulle politiche della ricerca in Svizzera. I suoi interessi principali di ricerca riguardano gli indicatori scienza e tecnologia e le politiche della ricerca e dell¿educazione superiore in Europa; è coordinatore della rete europea sugli indicatori entro la rete di eccellenza europea sulle politiche della ricerca e dell¿innovazione PRIME.
Dr. Benedetto Lepori holds a PhD in Communication Sciences with a thesis on
the Swiss research and higher education policy at the University of Lugano in
2004. Since 1996, he is responsible of the Research Service of the university
and is head of the research group on management and performance of research
and higher education institutions in Centre of Organizational Research
of the Faculty of Economics.
He is coordinator of the European Network of Indicators Producers (www.
enid-europe.org) inside the PRIME Network of Excellence of the 6FP and chair
of the PRIME Indicators conference series. His research interests cover the domain
of science and higher education policy, firstly at the Swiss level and later
on comparative European analysis on project funding and on higher education
funding. More generally, his research interests involve the realm of S¤
indicators, both at the general methodological level, in the development of
new indicators the analysis of public funding of research and in the use of
indicators for characterizing scientific fields, especially in social sciences and
humanities.
