ALaRI is the Advanced Learning and Research Institute established in 1999 at the University of Lugano (Università della Svizzera italiana), Switzerland, with the mission of promoting research and education in Embedded Systems Design. Aware of the real need for a cross-disciplinary approach to education, ALaRI equips the participants with a unique body of knowledge ranging from electronic engineering to computer sciences, including interpersonal skills, indispensable in today´s industry, such as team work, complex-project management, and market sensitivity.
The research activities focus on topics of great scientific interest and industrial applicability, based on real-life design issues, including security & cryptography, pervasive computing, high-level system design, system-on-chip communications.
The teaching staff relies on international experts from renowned EU and US universities, research centres and industries, such as Dortmund Universität, EPF-Lausanne, ETH-Zürich, Humboldt Univ-Berlin, Politecnico di Milano, University of Colorado, UPC Barcelona, and also CSEM-Neuchatel, Hewlett Packard, IMEC-Leuven, NEC Princeton, and others.
At present two Master´s Degree Programs in Embedded Systems Design are offered (the Master of Advanced Studies and the Master of Science), depending on candidates´ background and
curriculum. For both master´s programs scholarships and accommodation are available.
During the Master´s courses, students are requested to complete a practical project in collaboration with industrial and academic partners in advanced research topics.
Finally, ALaRI takes actively part in several European and National programs in the IT field.
