Study grants for the Master's programme

1. All Faculties

1.1 Students with residence in Ticino
Students having had resident status in Ticino for at least two years (for foreign students the required period of residence is five years) may seek financial assistance from either the Government or private foundations. Please contact the following office:

1.2. Students with residence in other Swiss cantons
Students whose regular residence is in one of the other Swiss cantons must in the first instance apply to the relevant office in that canton.

1.3. Bursary for Swiss and foreign students
Swiss and foreign students registered at the Università della Svizzera italiana, USI may submit an application for a bursary from the Leonardo Foundation. The application can be submitted with the appropriate form available on the website http://www4.ti.ch/decs/sa/ubss/cosa-facciamo/fondazioni/

2. Faculties of Economics, Communication Sciences and Informatics

2.1. The Foundation for the Lugano Faculties of USI and the Università della Svizzera italiana, will award a total of 60 one-off study grants of the amount of 4'000 CHF each. The merit based grants are given to students admitted as first-year students of a USI Master programme. Merit is determined based on the results of the academic degree that gives access to the Master (usually the bachelor’s). Distribution of the grants will be as followed: 20 grants will be awarded to students that pursued a Bachelor degree at a Swiss University, 20 to students that pursued a Bachelor degree at an Italian University and 20 to students that pursued a Bachelor degree in a University from other countries.
Candidates are kindly asked to send the complete application by July 31st. All applicants will be notified by the middle of August.

2.2. Each year, in order to promote and encourage the accademic performance and the education of qualified resources, the USImpresa fund assignes  USImpresa Grants of the amount of CHF 4'000 to the best first year student of each USI Master programme. 3. Academy of Architecture

3.1. For the 2011-2012 academic year, the University of Lugano has assigned a contest for 5 study grants addressing highly qualified Bachelor graduates in architecture, registering for the Master’s studies starting in September 2011 at the Academy of Architecture. The grants cover the tuition fees for the first year and are renewable for the second year.

3.2. Other foundations award study grants to deserving candidates, in particular students from emerging countries and from institutions with which the Academy has built special partner relations (Tucuman, Argentina, and Bucharest, Romania):

4. Swiss Government grants for foreign students
Through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), the Swiss Government grants foreign students university scholarships (Swiss universities, Federal Institutes of Technology). These scholarships are offered on the basis of reciprocity (fixed number of scholarships for each country) or within the frame of a scholarship pool (scholarships without fixed distribution by country). They are intended for students who have graduated from university and who, by staying in Switzerland, will be able to further their education and to undertake research work in the fields in which the Swiss universities are particularly active.

5. Familien-Vontobel-Stiftung scholarship
The Familien-Vontobel-Stiftung, Zürich, is offering up to two scholarships for students attending the Master programmes within the area of finance (Master in Finance, Banking & Finance, and Financial Communication).
