The Institute of Finance coordinates the research and training activities in financial disciplines at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Lugano. Founded in 1999, it is part of the Swiss research network FINRISK. It offers Bachelor´s, Master´s and PhD programmes.

The Institute of Finance is also member of the Swiss Finance Institute, which is a research organization with a faculty of more than 50 full time researchers engaged in high level research in the field of banking and finance and related disciplines. Its three centres are in Zurich, Lugano and Lausanne-Geneva.

The University of Lugano is very sensitive to the requirements of financial training in Ticino. The importance of the financial area in the cantonal economy motivates the mission of the Finance Institute: to conduct research on quantitative and institutional topics of the financial markets, collaborating with other universities and financial institutions. The teaching programmes aim to prepare the students to face the challenges of globalization and the increased competition in financial markets.
