Studying at University of Lugano

The University of Lugano (USI) is a multi-lingual university with a strong international orientation. Its faculty and students come from at least 80 different countries. USI was also among the first universities in Switzerland to adopt the new European university structure (called “Bologna declaration” or “3+2”), encouraging students’ mobility across European campuses.

Courses are mainly taught in Italian and English. Intensive courses in these and other European languages (i.e. French and German) help students overcoming language barriers. USI also continuously introduces innovative and effective teaching methods, such as the “dual language system”, thus reinforcing its international character and its role of academic bridge between Italy and the rest of Switzerland.

USI is part of the Swiss academia network through participation in the National strategic programs. Privileged ties with the main universities of Lombardy (Italy) extend and improve the offer of courses, through “dual degree” Master programs.

Being the only university of Italian language and culture in the Swiss academia, USI has chosen to emphasize this character with the creation of an Institute for Italian Studies and a cross-disciplinary Master in Italian Literature and Culture.

Top-quality teachers and high teacher-student ratio (over 200 faculty for about 2000 students) favor frequent stimulating contacts between students and teachers.
