The Master of Science in Embedded Systems Design is coordinated by ALaRI (Advanced Learning and Research Institute) at the University of Lugano.

Aware of the real need for a cross-disciplinary approach to education, ALaRI equips students with a unique body of knowledge, interweaving technologies and complex-project management, together with developing interpersonal skills, such as those needed for team work and market sensitivity.
On this basis, ALaRI provides challenging opportunities, stressing the most relevant added-value features in embedded systems, and basing research trends on real-life design issues, such as security & cryptography; pervasive computing; high-level system design; system-on-chip communications.

The degree programme stretches over two years with four semesters of study organised in mandatory and elective courses. A research project is an integral part of the study, leading to the final Master´s thesis. Design laboratories provide an interdisciplinary approach, where students learn the discipline of design, applying the competences acquired in the different courses in an integrated way. Further, students can personalise their study curricula according to their individual interests.

During the second year, two tracks of study are offered:

  • Design and Research: oriented to design and research careers in academia or industry
  • Business Projects: oriented to the management, economics and marketing of embedded systems.
The programme provides 120 credits (ECTS) and qualifies graduates to seek admission to PhD studies.

Cooperation between university and industry and inter-disciplinary study through design laboratories and projects characterise the teaching programme.

Professors from renowned EU and US universities and research centres ensure top-quality teaching, while experts from industry contribute with their know-how as tutors or advisors in the research projects.
All courses are taught in English

Thanks to its wide network of collaborations, ALaRI can support its graduates in finding opportunities for full-time jobs, internships, or PhD positions.
