Fabian Kuhn joined the faculty of informatics of the University of Lugano as an assistant professor in September 2009. In 2005, he received his Ph.D. from ETH Zurich for his work on locality phenomena in distributed algorithms. After finishing the dissertation, he spent time as a researcher at Microsoft Research Silicon Valley, at the Institute of Theoretical Computer Science at ETH Zurich, and in the theory of computation group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Fabian Kuhn is generally interested in algorithms and combinatorial structures. In particular, his research focuses on algorithms and theory for large, decentralized distributed systems. For his research, he received best paper awards at several major distributed computing conferences. He is an active member of the community and has served on a number of theory and networking conference program committees.
