Practical Information

a) Dates: 06-06-2022 – 10-06-2022.

b) Location: A12, Red Building, West Campus, Lugano – Università della Svizzera italiana.

c) Application:

This summer school is intended for advanced students and scholars of ancient and medieval philosophy, such as masters or doctoral students, and also post-docs and early career university teachers. Those who work in contemporary philosophy or on other periods are also most welcome. There are no formal requirements for entry, and anyone interested may apply.

In order to apply, please fill in the form you find attached to this webpage and send it to [email protected] together with a CV, a covering letter explaining why you want to come to the summer school and the ways in which you think it will help your work, and please ask a referee (in the case of masters or doctoral students, this will probably be your supervisor) to send a reference letter to the same address.

If there are more applicants than places, we shall select according to our judgement of who will be the best contributors to, and greatest beneficiaries from, the Summer School. We shall let you know whether or not you have a by February 15th.

Applications must be sent online by January 31st, 2022.

d) Fees:

There is a fee for the Summer School of 400 CHF (£313, 370 euros, 430USD). Travel, accommodation, and meals are not included.

The cost of accommodation varies greatly according to where you choose, from less than 30 CHF per night (in a shared room) to 150 CHF and upwards. One option participants might want to consider is renting a house or apartment through AirBnB, to be shared by several people. In that way, you can stay comfortably for 40 – 50 CHF per night. We shall circulate contact details of participants (with their permission) in case they want to discuss sharing in this way.

e) Bursaries:

For those who cannot obtain support from their own institutions or elsewhere for the costs of the summer school, we shall be offering (pending budgetary approval) a number of bursaries to cover the full or partial costs of the fee. Please, indicate in your application if you wish to be considered for one of these bursaries.
