USI Rector Boas Erez, SUPSI General Director Franco Gervasoni, and the Major of Lugano, Marco Borradori, have inaugurated the small exhibition pavilion “Casa progetto” set up inside a container which, thanks to videos, figures and a 1:200 scale model, tells the story of the new Campus Est.

“Casa di progetto” of Campus Est has the aim of accompanying the community and future patrons throughout the development of the site thanks to a proactive communication, leading the way to a new approach in Ticino when dealing with large urban projects. The innovative approach has already been adopted across the Alps and in other countires in the context of important urban metamorphosis, which aims at their harmonious development through information and mediation with stakeholders.

Promoted by Università della Svizzera italiana, and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, “Casa Progetto” is the heart of the project. A small pavilion that tells the story of the new Campus Est which will welcome both USI and SUPSI. A temporary place constantly updated, open to the city, where the community can gather information, meet, and exchange opinions. “Casa progetto” invites to take a closer look at the construction site, on the future building, and on the university centre.

Campus Est – which will open in the fall 2020 and which will host USI Faculty of Informatics and the new USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, and SUPSI Department of Innovative Technologies – is one of the major urban developments of the Lugano area. By straddling the districts of Viganello and Molino Nuovo within a fabric already populated by established academic realities, it contributes to the growth of a lively and dynamic university centre.
