Annemarie Jaeggi is the Director of the Bauhaus Archive and the Berlin Design Museum. She has been teaching History of Architecture at USI Academy of Architecture for many years, and was awarded on Wednesday last week an Honorary Doctorate by the Institut für Technologie in Karlsruhe (KIT). The Director of the Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture (ISA), Prof. Christoph Frank, talks about her and "congratulates her on this important academic accolade, while thanking her for her long-standing and important contribution at the Academy".

With a PhD in art history and architecture, Annemarie Jaeggi has been awarded for her important contributions to art history, design, and architecture. The award ceremony took place on 6 November in Karlsruhe. A Swiss citizen, Annemarie Jaeggi was born in 1956. Since April 2003 she has been the director of the largest Bauhaus collection in the world, located in Berlin. Jaeggi is a great expert on the era of the Weimar Republic, with particular attention to Walter Gropius (the architect who founded the Bauhaus art school in Weimar in 1919, which celebrates its centenary this year).

The highlights of Annemarie Jaeggi's scientific career are closely tied to the city of Karlsruhe and its university. Since 1992 and for nine years, she had been in fact "Research Associate" at the Institute for Art History at the University of Karlsruhe (KIT). In 2001, Annemarie Jaeggi obtained her habilitation with a work on "Walter Gropius and the construction of the settlement of the Weimar Republic". She then acted as head of the Southwest German Archive of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SAAI), one of Germany's most important architecture archives. During this period, Jaeggi caused a stir with her exhibition "Egon Eiermann (1904-1970) - The Continuity of Modernity". Her main works include "Adolf Meyer - der zweite Mann. Ein Architekt im Schatten von Walter Gropius", Berlin 1994; "Fagus. Industrial culture from Werkbund to Bauhaus", New York 2000; "Egon Eiermann (1904-1970). Architect and Designer", Ostfildern 2004.
