The Rector of Università della Svizzera italiana Boas Erez has been appointed President of the International Relations delegation of swissuniversities starting from May 2020.

Swissuniversities, the umbrella organisation representing universities in Switzerland, includes a number of Delegations (research, strategy planning, international relations, teaching and open science) whose aim, thanks to the work of the delegates, is the development of strategic positions and transversal coordination between universities and the various types of higher education institutions. The International Relations delegation, chaired from May 2020 to July 2021 by the Rector of USI, follows and anticipates developments in international relations, ensures the exchange of information and expertise and lays the foundations for decisions and opinions on international issues.

"Internationality - explains Boas Erez - is a distinctive trait of Universities, in particular USI, brought about by its students, researchers and professors, but also by the geographical context, which provides a close link with the territory and with neighbouring countries. Switzerland is one of the most competitive countries on an international level and closely linked to the European context: it is therefore important to be aware of political, social and cultural developments, particularly in neighbouring countries, and to establish a lasting and fruitful dialogue that favours exchange and dialogue between the different academic contexts".
