Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars

Do you collaborate with excellent researchers from the EU or from third countries (developing countries)? Would you like to invite them to your group for a research period or to start a doctorate?
Then the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars (ESKAS) would be the right instrument for you. The ESAKS Fellowships promote international exchange and research cooperation by supporting researchers from over 180 countries for a scholarship coming to one of the Swiss universities.
Types of scholarships:
- Doctoral scholarship:
- For full-time PhD studies in Switzerland in all academic fields;
- Duration: 12 months (starting in September) extendable up to 36 months;
- Amount: monthly salary of CHF 1’920 + small housing, health and travel allowances.
- Post-doc scholarship:
- For full-time postdoctoral research in Switzerland in all academic fields;
- Duration: 12 months (starting in September); no prolongation possible;
- Amount: monthly salary of CHF 3’500 + small housing, health and travel allowances
- Research scholarship:
- For full-time research in Switzerland, to enable applicants to undertake research in the realm of their PhD or medical specialisation;
- Duration: 12 months (starting in September); no extension possible;
- Amount: monthly salary of CHF 1’920 + small housing, health and travel allowances
Pre-requisites:
In all cases, applicants who have been in Switzerland since more than one year at the beginning of the scholarship in September are not eligible.

Deadline dates vary from country to country. The different types of scholarship on offer vary according to country. These can be checked according to the applicant’s country of origin:
