The Long Night of Careers, now in its sixth year, is an annual national event with a diversified and interactive career-oriented lineup dedicated to Bachelor, Master and PhD students from Swiss universities. At USI, the event will be held in two phases. On Thursday, 19 November 2020 online, with a diverse programme ranging from corporate presentations to thematic workshops. An event will follow this on Thursday, 25 March 2021.

The evening of Thursday, 19 November, will open with a welcome speech by USI Rector Boas Erez, who will focus on the importance of collaborations between universities and companies (5:45 pm to 6:00 pm). Following the Rector, company presentations and workshops organised in 60-minute slots (6:00 pm to 7:00 pm; 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm; 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm). Students and graduates will be able to meet potential employers online, improve their application skills, gather ideas and insights for their professional future.

Some preliminary numbers: 30 companies have joined the evening, 27 workshops will be held with the participation of 100 professionals (including 30 alumni) and about twenty USI faculty members. More than 400 students and recent graduates have already pre-registered for the event. The Careers Service organises the event with the collaboration of over 45 Student Angels, student volunteers who offer personalised assistance to the companies.

USI Rector Boas Erez underlines the importance of having found a new format able to offer continuity to this highly popular event: "Since the beginning of the health emergency, USI has been looking for new ways to remain faithful to its mission, despite the restrictions. Online lessons, remote examinations, video-conference theses discussions, live streaming events. The Long Night of Careers is no exception. The new format shows the dynamism of those who wish, while respecting the restrictions in force, to continue to offer the community an interactive programme capable of providing added value to participants".

The Pro-Rector for Education and Students' Experience Lorenzo Cantoni highlights the importance of this initiative to preserve and increase relations between universities and the world of work: "Over the years, the Long Night of Careers has been confirmed as one of the most successful initiatives promoted by our Career and Alumni Service. University training, especially at a Master's level, must keep a constant exchange with the business world, both to update training programmes based on emerging needs and to promote internship and work opportunities for students. It is also a unique opportunity to stay in touch with those who have studied at USI, who have appreciated its educational offer and want to share their experience with current students".
