In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Claudia Wenger, Resp. Training and Development in Cornèr Banca in Lugano.
USI Degrees: Master in Economia e Management, 2006 and Bachelor in Scienze economiche, 2004.

How did you start your career?

I started working in Cornèr Banca immediately after having presented the Master thesis. I started as an employee in the Organization Office, as a Jr. Project Manager. After two years I reached the Human Resources office, where I got part of the Training and Development unit.

Why did you choose a career at Cornèr Banca?

I loved the fact to be part of a local organization with a worldwide business.

What is your current role/duties?

I'm the responsible of the Training and Development Unit, I manage the whole training plans of every Division of the Bank, the career paths of the talents, the internal and external courses as well as the training of the apprentices, the interns and the all-rounders.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in Cornèr Banca?

You should have a strong motivation, be proactive, enthusiastic and reliable.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

USI gave me a strong and 360° overview of the different economic topics as well as the opportunity to get in touch with a lot of specialists.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Organization, ability to cope with pressure, ability to prioritize and to adapt to different situations.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Work in an environment that suits you, that stimulates your curiosity. Be humble and hard working, demonstrating proactivity and new points of view.
