In the latest edition of the QS World University Rankings, USI has improved its rank over the last year - from 273rd to 240th - and breaks into the 'top 250' in only its second appearance in the table which sees 1.300 universities ranked worldwide, 145 more than the previous edition. USI also confirms its eighth position in Switzerland.

After the best 'new entry' recorded last year, in the QS World University Rankings 2022 USI gains more than thirty positions and is now ranked 240th out of 1300 universities worldwide, 145 more than the previous edition.

"This result confirms that USI fares well both nationally and internationally, deserving the trust therefore of those who choose to study and do research in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. If we compare ourselves in the national context, USI has succeeded in overtaking other institutions in Switzerland with long traditions and in becoming one of the leading Swiss universities - and after only 25 years of existence. In neighbouring Italy, only three universities rank better than us. I can therefore say, with all the due cautions related to the variability of rankings, that  this is an achievement of which our students, graduates and employees can be very proud" - comments the USI Rector Boas Erez.

"The significant progress in the QS global ranking is mainly due to the joint effort of students, professors and lecturers, non-academic staff and alumni," adds the USI Pro-Rector for Education and Students' Experience, Lorenzo Cantoni.

The QS World University Rankings is one of the three most widespread and well-known rankings in the world, together with the Times Higher Education, another leading international ranking in which USI is well represented. These rankings are compiled based on the analysis of a very large amount of data. From these, indicators are drawn, such as bibliometric data (citations and references in scientific publications), the impact of research carried out by universities, the quality of teaching and the international perspective. With regards in particular to the "Citations per Faculty" indicator, USI gained 151 positions, a significant result that highlights the scientific quality of the University.
