The World Health Organization Report on Mental Health and COVID-19 has been published and will be officially presented in Athens, during the Ministerial Conference organised by the Greek Government, in the presence of European Health Ministers and several public health experts. Professor Emiliano Albanese, as Director of the USI Institute of Public Health (IPH) and as rapporteur of the Report and member of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), will take part in the event.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a very strong impact on the mental health and well-being of the population. For this reason, in February 2021, the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) was established to review available evidence of the mental health impacts of COVID-19 in the European Region and to identify any gaps, key emerging needs, and actions that member States should take to respond to this crisis.

The Pan-European Summit will take place July 22-23 in Athens, Greece, and will focus on actions needed to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and service delivery systems in the WHO European Region. The meeting will also present proposals to put mental health at the center of the economic and social recovery process, providing an opportunity to assess what has been learned during the pandemic and look at mental health reform based on the shared experience gained during this period.

The conference will be attended by health ministers from the European Region and a number of experts. The goal is to share member States' experiences in the response to the pandemic by mental health services, present findings gathered by the Technical Advisory Group, and propose solutions to strengthen mental health and well-being and improve universal health coverage related to access to quality mental health services.

TAG members are scientists and experts with significant technical expertise and experience in a variety of mental health-related areas, such as: epidemiology and public health, mental health and life-long well-being, service management for COVID-19-affected populations, crisis management, emergency preparedness and response, ethics, equity, human rights, and gender.
