Support to Ratio for the organization of a conference

Student Corporation

27 October 2021

Decision No D-1021-05

At its sitting on 26 October, the Student Council has decided to support with 700 CHF a proposal submitted by the student association Ratio, which fosters philosophical discussion through informative events open to the student community (even outside of the philosophy department) and to all interested parties. According to the proposal, Ratio will take part in the organisation of a conference on counterfactuals. Themes like free will, religion, theories of truth, and politics will be discussed. The event will also feature a round table discussion in which philosophy students and the Lugano community will converse with two experts on the subject: Anna Marmodoro (professor of philosophy at the University of Oxford and visiting professor at USI) and Andrea Maria Bottani (Professor of Philosophy at the University of Bergamo and visiting professor at the Institute of Philosophical Studies in Lugano). The credit assigned will be used for guests’ transport and accommodation expenses and to support the aperitif scheduled at the end of the event. The event will be held in Italian and foresees the participation of about 100 people.

Details of the decision

The Student Council supports the project, among other reasons, for its strong relevance with USI education and its cultural value. Furthermore, the project fosters engagement between students of different faculties and promotes personal and social development.

Decision procedure

The Decision was taken by the Student Council unanimously. The credit corresponds to the request made by the association. It will be made available in the form defined in concert with the University when the actual expenses associated with the project are needed.

Deadline for the Student referendum

The deadline to launch a Student Referendum against this Decision is 10 November 2021.
