Winter Universiade 2021: two USI students in team Switzerland

Riccardo Werder (HC Lugano), bachelor student at the Academy of Architecture and Giona Bionda (HC Ticino Rockets), bachelor student at the Faculty of Economics, will participate in the Winter Universiade 2021 in the Swiss Hockey team.

The Winter Universiade 2021 will be held from 11 to 21 December 2021 in 8 different locations in central Switzerland, with headquarters in Lucerne. After the Olympic Games, the Winter Universiade is the largest multi-sport winter event.

The programme consists of 10 sports spread across 8 locations (Lucerne as host city, Andermatt-Realp, Stoos, Engelberg, Sursee, Zug, St. Moritz and Lenzerheide). Students between the ages of 17 and 25 from more than 540 universities in 50 countries are expected in Switzerland.

Some 1,600 athletes from around the world will compete in 10 winter disciplines such as Biathlon, Ice Hockey, Freestyle & Freeski, Speed Skating, Snowboarding, Curling, Skating, Cross Country Skiing, Skiing and Ski Orienteering.
