Liceo Lugano 2 hosts and organises, in collaboration with SATW (Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences), the second [email protected] Throughout the day, students will focus on science and technology. USI will be attending with numerous contributions from the Faculty of Informatics, but not exclusively.
For the Faculty of Informatics, Prof. Antonio Carzaniga will give the speech "The Art and the Beauty of Programming", and Prof. Ernst Wit will talk about the triumphs (and pitfalls) of data science. Dr Alberto Ferrante will talk about "Internet of Things with Arduino", Prof. Monica Landoni with Sveva Valguarnera will discuss "Technology Design for Reading with and for Children". Lastly, Master's students Stefano Taillefert and Andrea Brites Marto will talk about "Robot programming with Thymio".
Also, USI L' Ideatorio will contribute to TecDay with two speakers: Dr Giovanni Pellegri with the speech "Are we alone in the universe?" and Janos Cont with a reflection on "US and artificial intelligence". We also would like to highlight the participation of Dr Anna Picco Schwendener from the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society (with the activity "L'indovino automatico" - The automatic clairvoyant), of USI's former President Piero Martinoli (who will speak about "Una breve storia dell'universo" - A brief history of the universe) and of Professor Antonietta Mira from the Faculty of Economics (with the presentation "Mathematics and the magical mind").
TecDays promotes technology in Swiss secondary schools
Since 2007, the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences SATW (www.satw.ch) has successfully organised TecDays in secondary schools throughout Switzerland. Together with school administrators and industry specialists, including USI academics, they help the younger generation develop a better understanding of mathematics, informatics, natural and technical sciences (MINT). On these days, students can design their own customised programme by choosing from numerous modules.
