New materials and technologies have the potential to make building processes more sustainable. We have invited three guest speakers to discuss the road from innovative concepts to real architectural projects and startups within the architecture and construction space. The event is moderated by Dr. Ena Lloret Fritschi, Assistant Professor at the Academy of Architecture.

Event schedule:

18.00 - Doors open

18.30 - Welcome and introduction

18.40 - Eggshell: From concept to real scale prototypes in architecture

18.50 - Robotic Plastering: From research to industry with Innosuisse

19.00 - LEHMAG: From project to startup

19.10 - Q&A, discussion and wrap-up

19.30 - Networking drinks

Speakers:

Joris Burger, PhD Researcher, Gramazio Kohler Research (ETH Zurich)

Joris Burger is an architect/engineer and researcher from the Netherlands, with an interest in digital fabrication and computational design. He is currently a PhD Researcher at Gramazio Kohler Research (ETH, Zurich), where he is exploring the possibilities of robotic fabrication of concrete formwork.

Selen Ercan, PhD Researcher, Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication (Gramazio Kohler Research), Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich

Selen Ercan Jenny is a digital fabrication researcher. She studied architecture at METU and TU Delft. In 2011, she joined the Chair of Architecture and Digital Fabrication at ETHZ. Between 2013 and 2017, she was part of the Future Cities Lab of Singapore ETH Centre. Since 2018, she is a PhD researcher at ETHZ.

Felix Hilgert, MSc. ETH-Bauing, Co-Founder LEHMAG

Felix Hilgert studied civil engineering at the ETH Zurich and wrote his master's thesis on "Excavation material as the new building resource for Zurich". Hilgert has been working for Boltshauser Architekten AG, Zurich, since 2017 and has been a research associate for guest lecturer Roger Boltshauser at ETH Zurich since autumn 2018. In 2019, Felix Hilgert founded LEHMAG AG together with Lukas Baumann, a construction company for sustainable construction with earthen excavation material.
