On a distant Neolithic day, a group of women uncovered the mystery surrounding the birth of lambs: they discovered that the presence of at least one ram among the flock causes the sheep to become pregnant. This revelation of the essential role of the male in procreation would eventually change the dynamics between women and men in the societies of that time, giving rise to the concept of paternity, which was previously unknown.
Following in the footsteps of French geographer and anthropologist Jacques Dupuis, Andreas Filerimos - an archaeologist and scholar of classical and Hellenistic Greece - narrates this event, imagining its consequences for the development of human societies, in his recent book "L'Alba del Patriarcato" (The Dawn of Patriarchy). An in-depth examination of these themes illustrated in Filerimos' text will take place:
Monday, 24 June at 6 pm in room A22 (Red building), at the West Campus Lugano of Università della Svizzera italiana.
The lecture will be given by Nicola Carcano, lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of Università della Svizzera italiana.
