How to tell apart a copy from the original? Which artwork and models should an artist study in order to reach the level of the great masters? The question of how and what to copy is a constant in the theoretical debate on the education of the painter in Europe in the early modern age, and one of the central themes of the historical-artistic discipline.

The presentation of the book Dipingere in copia. Da Roma all'Europa (1750-1870), written by Dr. Carla Mazzarelli will be held on Thursday, 28 February at 6 pm in room A21, on Lugano Campus. The conference, held in Italian, will feature the author, who is a lecturer at USI for both ISA and ISI, Liliana Barroero and Giovanna Capitelli (Roma Tre University), Christoph Frank and Stefano Prandi (USI), who are respectively director of the Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture (ISA) and director of the Institute of Italian Studies (ISI).

The book is published in collaboration with the Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture. For more information: http://www.campisanoeditore.it
