  • Grading system

An examination may be graded on a binary basis (pass/fail) or on a numerical scale.

The numerical scale goes from 1 to 10, including half-points, and the pass mark is 6.

A pass in an examination results in credits (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System – ECTS – points) being awarded for the course concerned.

Any mid-course tests (projects, presentations, examination credits) are graded at the discretion of the lecturer. The lecturer independently determines whether and how such tests contribute to the final course mark. The lecturer must communicate the examination arrangements to students at the beginning of the course.

For further information, please see the Study Regulations.

  • Communication of marks and certificate

All examination marks are communicated in writing and recorded on esami.lu.usi.ch (access via edu-ID).

Publication of the marks is communicated by the Dean’s Office.

Grade transcripts showing the examinations taken, credits and grades shall be sent to students by letter mail.

  • Means of complaint

A student may appeal against an examination grade within the time limits and according to the methods set out in the Study Regulations.

  • Access to exam papers

The University grants students access to their exam papers for a period of 30 days after the grades are disclosed - see Guidelines on viewing and archiving exam and matriculation documents
