Servizio relazioni internazionali e mobilità

On 18 May, the International Relations Service invited all incoming students to the last activity of this academic year. The weather was not on our side, so our initial idea of the Adventure Park at Monte Tamaro, a typical ourdoor activity, was replaced by a session of indoor climbing experience at the Evolution Climbing Center

Overall, nine mobility students joined this activity. Few of them already had basic experience, whereas other were absolute beginners. The three instructors led the group through the basics of climbing, such as equipment, how to secure yourself to the harness and how to safely belay your  climbing partner.

The group then moved to the climbing walls, starting with easy routes executed in top rope, under the attentive eyes of the instructors. Little by little the participants gained confidence and went on to experience more challenging routes, in certain cases trying also as lead climbers.

The morning went by fast, and each participant could try several routes of different levels of difficulty. The day concluded with a group lunch on-site, and a match of table football to relax.

Evolution Climbing Center is a big hall equipped for both indoor climbing and bouldering. It offers 1400 sqm of climbing surface and more than 150 climbing routes and boulder. The center regularly organizes climbing classes and often hosts competitions or private events. USI’s students and collaborators can benefit from special rates on entry tickets and subscriptions, and both the center and the USI SUPSI Sport Service regularly offer climbing classes.
