The SNSF offers great mobility opportunities either for visits abroad or scientific events in Switzerland. Take advantage of the schemes “Mobility grants in projects” (for PhD students employed on a SNSF grant) and “Scientific exchanges” (experienced researchers): submission possible all year round!

SNSF Mobility grants in projects

Mobility grants in projects are aimed at doctoral students who wish to improve their scientific profile by going abroad while being employed in an ongoing SNSF research project.

A mobility grant can cover travel and living costs as well as fees for conferences and workshops of up to CHF 20’000 for 6-12 months.

The application procedure is extremely simple.

SNSF Scientific exchanges

Scientific exchanges grants support scientific events (conferences, workshops) or research stays of 6 months in Switzerland or abroad.

Scientific events

Funds can be requested for meetings, conferences, workshops or similar events organised by the applicant in Switzerland in order to facilitate direct exchanges between qualified scientists from different countries and institutions.
The topic of the event must be related to the research questions the applicant is working on.

Budget: travel, room and board costs for participants from abroad. The number of supported persons is limited to 1-2 per half day of the event. Max. CHF 50’000.

Research visits

Funds can be requested for research visits of 1-6 months by the applicant at an institution abroad or visit by a guest from abroad at the applicant’s institution. The visit must be devoted to scientific cooperation and exchanges in the subject area of the research questions addressed by the applicant and must include a concrete plan for join research activities. PhD students are not eligible.

Budget: travel, room and board costs of the applicant or of the guest invited by the applicant. Max. CHF 50’000.
