In Horizon Europe, the EIC Pathfinder Open is the direct successor of the former programme Future Emerging Technologies – FET”.  Although with a different name, its spirit remains unchanged: Pathfinder Open supports breakthrough, high-risk/high-gain technologies and innovations, financing projects that are ambitious, visionary, aiming for a radical technological change and with a potential of a disruptive impact. 

The support is foreseen for early-stage (basic research) bottom-up projects (i.e. without any predefined thematic priorities and open to any field of science and technology). 

Applicants

Interdisciplinary collaborative consortium of at least 3 legal entities, established in a different Member State or Associated Country and with at least  one  of  them  established  in  a  Member  State*. The involvement of SMEs and/or promising start-ups is highly encouraged

*Association conditions 

For the purposes of eligibility to this scheme, Switzerland will be treated as an entity established in an Associated Country, provided  that the Horizon  Europe  association  agreement, currently under negotiation,  applies  at  the  time  of  signature  of  the  approved project’s grant  agreement.

Funding

Projects can request an EU contribution of up to EUR 3 million. 

Evaluation criteria

Proposals are evaluated towards the following criteria: 

Excellence, including  

  • Long-term vision, 
  • Science-towards-technology breakthrough, 
  • Concrete  and  plausible objectives 

Impact, including 

  • Innovation potential 

Implementation, including 

  • Quality of the consortium
