SNSF NCCR call 2024
Servizio ricerca e trasferimento del sapere
Submission deadline: 1 Dicembre 2023
Submission deadline: 1 December, 2023 ( internal deadline)
With the National Centres of Competence in Research (NCCRs), the SNSF promotes long-term research projects of the highest quality on topics of strategic importance for Switzerland for up to 12 years. The NCCRs form networks and thus contribute to sustainable priorities and structures in the Swiss higher education landscape.
The call is thematically open and aimed at all disciplines.
The SNSF evaluates the NCCR proposals and recommends a selection to the SERI for funding. The SERI assesses the proposals based on research and higher education policy. The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research decides which NCCRs to fund.
Eligibility
NCCRs are aimed at established researchers in Switzerland who wish to pursue a long-term research project on a topic of strategic importance.
NCCRs proposals must be backed by one or more home institution.
NCCR (Co-)Directors need to have a permanent professor position at their home institution. However, people without tenure can be integrated as PI of a subproject in an NCCR submitted by another researcher.
Funding and duration
NCCRs may run for up to 12 years, divided into 4-year-phases. Funding is determined by parliament. In the last NCCR series, the SNSF committed up to CHF 20M for each 4-year phase. This time, preference will be given to NCCRs with a smaller budget, consortia and a shorter duration. NCCRs may run for up to 12 years, divided into 4-year-phases.
