Over five hundred students participated in the ninth Long Night of Careers at USI, held on Thursday, 18 April 2024. The event, organised by the USI Careers Service, proved to be an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for their future careers by exploring new career options, meeting potential employers, and establishing new contacts.

The Long Night of Careers saw the participation of 58 national and international companies. More than 245 professionals presented their job roles and career paths and provided valuable advice to students on how to prepare their CVs. Hundreds of students volunteered as "student angels", welcoming and assisting the corporate guests.

Among the professionals attending, 67 were USI alumni: former students who returned to the university to guide and assist students.

Among them, we met with Mattia Bertoli, Head of Business Development & Product Management at Lugano Region and alumnus of the Master in International Tourism at USI. He was a Student Angel in 2022, representing Lugano Region, and was later hired by the organisation. He returned this time to present a workshop on the opportunities and challenges of a career in a local DMO. "What I appreciated most about the event was the chance to meet interested young students. Tourism is a subject that requires a variety of skills, from economics to communication, and USI, with its proximity to the region and its multidisciplinary curricula, is the ideal environment for us to find the leading players in the tourism development of the Lugano region of tomorrow."

Giulia Crippa, a USI alumna who graduated from USI with a Master's degree in European Studies in Investor Relations and Financial Communication, participated in the Long Night of Careers representing Banca Credinvest. She spoke positively about the initiative, stating that, "Once again this year, the Long Night of Careers proved to be an important event for our organisation. We are confident that we have effectively supported future graduates, who in turn have enriched our vision with new perspectives to face the challenges of the labour market successfully. As a bank that is attentive to young talent, we see these initiatives as valuable opportunities to establish a constructive exchange with the younger generation."

According to Francesco Castagna, Portfolio QA Analyst at Bloomberg LP "With the latest edition of the Long Night of Careers, I am increasingly convinced that Università della Svizzera italiana embodies the values of academic excellence and open-mindedness, offering its students fertile ground to cultivate aspirations of global service."
