Following the escalation of student protests at Swiss universities, swissuniversities has taken a stand through an official statement, emphasising - in three key points - how Swiss universities are committed to freedom of research and teaching, through an open scientific discourse and respectful exchange of views.

Below are the three key points listed in swissuniversities' stand:

  • "Firstly, we believe that attempting to instrumentalise an institution for political purposes does not provide the basic conditions for a constructive dialogue."
  • "Secondly, we believe that maintaining academic dialogue is essential. Universities cannot accept the exclusion of individuals or institutions that are part of the academic community."
  • "Thirdly, we believe that schools of higher education are not political actors. Universities have the role of carrying out the academic tasks of research and teaching".

The full statement can be viewed at the following link: swissuniversities official stand. (Italian, German and French only).
