Boost your coding with Github Copilot: Python and Excel

This module introduces students to GitHub Copilot as a practical coding assistant, focusing on Python, Excel (with VBA), and Visual Studio. After a brief Python introduction, we’ll explore key packages for economics and finance,  and learn how to build insightful plots for data analysis.

Students will discover how to set up and use Copilot effectively to write code faster, automate tasks, and debug efficiently, even with the free version. The course includes hands-on examples. We’ll also cover LaTeX as a tool for writing clear, professional reports, useful for academic and technical work in economics and beyond.

The course will be taught in English.

Eleonora Castellani & Linnea Bergroth
During our Bachelor and Master studies, we’ve used GitHub Copilot extensively in Python-based projects, especially for data analysis and automation.
We've seen how powerful it can be in boosting productivity and simplifying complex tasks. Recently, we’ve also started exploring Copilot for Excel, aiming to deepen our skills and understand its potential in financial applications.
We’re excited to share this tool with other students, explain its benefits, and make it more approachable. Designing and teaching this course is a great opportunity for us to apply what we've learned, take on a new challenge, and encourage collaborative learning through real-world use cases.
