Institutional Communication Service

7 December 2020

A helping hand and a new listening place, by phone and e-mail, and free individual support available to all students and the intermediate body of USI. The new USI listening desk, promoted by Università della Svizzera italiana through the Equal Opportunities Service, will be active from Wednesday, 9 December 2020.

"USI in ascolto" (USI is listening) intends to be a space dedicated to welcoming and listening to the difficulties and moments of discomfort experienced by the community. Through the offer of a limited number of counselling sessions (usually from one to five), those in need are supported in understanding their individual, relational and/or social difficulties, and guided through the activation of their internal and external resources, to develop strategies to overcome these moments.

All Bachelor and Master students regularly enrolled at USI, as well as PhD students of all faculties, can benefit from USI's listening service.
"USI in ascolto" is run by people with direct knowledge of Università della Svizzera italiana and with specific training in psychology. The service is not intended to replace diagnostic or psychotherapy help, but to serve as temporary support to those who are experiencing a particularly critical situation and/or personal discomfort. USI in ascolto can provide information to anyone who wishes to undertake treatment with a mental health professional, by referring them to the Psychological Counseling Service, offered in collaboration with the Ticino Association of Psychologists, or to other competent resources in the area.

Counselling is offered in Italian and English. Maximum confidentiality is guaranteed.

The service is active in the following days and times:

  • Tuedays from 5 pm to 8 pm
