The book tackles Gottfried Semper’s Italian style Villa built for Agostino and Johanna Garbald in 1862–64 andMiller & Maranta’s extension and transformation project for the study center „Villa Garbald“ of the ETH Zurich completed in 2004. It sheds light on the cultural background of Semper’s clients and discusses both projects in the light of the cultural and architectural history of the Swiss mountain valley Bregaglia.
