The Mendrisio Cantonal High School hosted and organised the event TecDay on Friday, 25 November 2022, in collaboration with SATW (Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences). The entire day was dedicated to science and technology for high school students. USI participated in numerous contributions and workshops from the Faculty of Informatics and more.

For the Faculty of Informatics, Prof. Ernst Wit gave the talk "What is Data Science?" and Professor Monica Landoni, with PhD students Sveva Valguarnera and Irene Zanardi, organised interactive activities around "Technology Design with and for Children - Creativity and Games in Informatics." Finally, Master's students Stefano Taillefert and Andrea Brites Marto provided hands-on activities on "Programming Robots with Thymio."

USI Ideatorio also contributed to TecDay with Janos Cont's talk on " Us and Artificial Intelligences." Finally, we report the participation of former USI President Piero Martinoli (who told "A Brief History of the Universe").

TecDays promotes technology in Swiss secondary schools

Since 2007, the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences SATW (www.satw.ch) has successfully organised TecDays at high schools throughout Switzerland. Together with school leaders and subject specialists, including USI academics, they help young people develop a better understanding of mathematics, informatics, and MINT. For the event, students can build their own customised programme by choosing from a number of modules.
