The third lecture of the course Culture and Health - Healing Words will be held on Monday, 6 November 2023, at 6 pm at the East Campus multipurpose room. During his lecture, Maurizio Gallucci will provide evidence that proves reading to be an essential factor in protecting the brain against dementia. Unfortunately, the habit of reading books is not very common among seniors with a medium or low level of education. However, reading is an essential cognitive stimulus due to its easy accessibility and low cost. The report will showcase an intervention programme designed to evaluate the effects of combining reading with physical training for seniors with mild cognitive impairment.

Antonio Malgaroli, as discussant, will focus on the physiopathological basis of the benefit our brain gets from reading in terms of neuroplasticity and neurogenesis.

Speaker:
Maurizio Gallucci, Director of the Child Development Centre and Professor of Developmental Paediatrics at the University of Zurich

Discussion with:
Antonio Malgaroli,
Full Professor at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele and USI (CH).

The reading will be interpreted by: Camilla Semino Favro
