A wish for peace and serenity

Dear members of the academic community,
2023 was a year of very positive results for the Università della Svizzera italiana. Looking back, I proudly see a university that has grown, that innovates, that speaks with the local community and that knows how to celebrate the deserved achievements of its students. I am well aware that for all this I have to thank those who came before me - I have only been Rector since July - as well as those who worked with dedication to achieve these goals, those who placed their trust in us and those who worked with us.
From an international perspective, it is not the peaceful Christmas we all would have liked to have had. Therefore, a special thought goes out to the members of the academic community touched by the consequences of the ongoing conflicts, with whom we stand together.
There will be no shortage of challenges in 2024. We will take new exams, draft a new university plan for 2025-28, introduce a Code of Ethics, and work together to create an increasingly inclusive and welcoming study and work environment. I look forward to working on this with you. In the meantime, I sincerely wish you a peaceful and pleasant time with your loved ones during this well-deserved break.
