Date: 15 November 2024

On Friday 15 November 2024, at 12.30 pm, the “ARRHOV FRICK. URSPRUNG Origin/Origin” exhibit opening continues with a food performance, by the cook and artist Asako Iwama, with the support of the students of Academy of Architecture.

During a workshop in the Arrhov Design Studio, Asako Iwama and the students, will prepare and offer a special dish made with local and seasonal ingredients. The lunch will be served in the garden created by the students together with the Public green office of the city of Mendrisio, and will be served on tables designed by the students themselves using recycled materials.
This event will be an opportunity for conviviality, discussion and socializing on food issues, inviting all to participate, not only the academic community but also the inhabitants of Mendrisio and the public of the Teatro dell’architettura.

Cooking and sharing the meal collectively will become an opportunity for exchange and discussion, enhancing the experience of the exhibition and creating a link between the creative processes of the URSPRUNG Origin/Origin project. This event is in fact conceived as an integral part of the exhibition, providing moments of reflection and involvement to transform the exhibition into an interactive and participatory experience.

Asako Iwama (1975) lives and works in Berlin and Tokyo. Her background as both cook and artist has led her to organise a series of experimental workshops exploring the social dimensions of food. Her practice seeks to transform our perception of nourishment aesthetically and epistemologically in the relationship with nature and the person. Taking the form of films, installations and interactions, but often through the processes of cooking, her works open up a space for the public to navigate the margins between composition and constitution, affinity and social context, knowledge and history. From 2005 to 2014 she worked at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin. She is the founder of the collective group pop-up café.
