Open Structures for Transformation
Tuesday November 19, 2024, 10.50 a.m.
Palazzo Canavée, Hall C0.63
In their investigation into the “architecture of openness,” 8000.agency discover almost forgotten housing projects, explore the qualities of open stairs and galleries, and present a repertoire of spatial approaches for communicative thresholds. Which potentials are embedded in these typologies? And how could they contribute to a practice of transformation?
8000.agency was founded in 2020 by Oliver Burch, Jakob Junghanss and Lukas Ryffel while graduating at ETH Zurich. Since then, they have been working on transformation processes in Zurich and beyond. Their work connects various scales and fields: From architecture, landscape and urbanism to exhibitions, public walks and writings. In 2022 they received the BSA Research Grant, out of which the book Offen erschlossen — Ansätze zum Weiterbauen was published in 2024. As part of the association ZAS*, they contribute to a critical discourse on contemporary building practice. From 2021 to 2024, 8000.agency was part of the Chair of Jan De Vylder at ETH Zürich, teaching the 33.3% design studio. Currently they are running a guest studio at ArchitekturWerkstatt St.Gallen.
