Professor Mauro Pezzè, a full professor at the Faculty of Informatics at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), has received the ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Service Award. This annual award is presented during the ICSE International Conference on Software Engineering, a prestigious event in the software engineering field.

The event is attended by around 2,000 people from all over the world. SIGSOFT Special Interest Group on Software Engineering is the largest association of ACM Association for Computing Machinery and one of the two most important associations for informatics: it manages hundreds of the most important informatics journals and organises numerous important conferences. Every year, three researchers are honoured in the categories of research, service (ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Service Award), and teaching. This year, the award ceremony will occur in Ottawa, Canada, between April and May. Visit the following link to view the list of previous winners and jury members.

The ACM SIGSOFT Distinguished Service Award was given to Professor Mauro Pezzè "For service to the software engineering community for three decades, and specifically for his recent contributions to TOSEM as Editor-in-Chief". From 2019 to 2024, the USI professor was Editor-in-Chief of ACM TOSEM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, one of the two most prestigious academic journals for software engineering. During these six years, the journal tripled its impact factor. ACM appointed him as a member of the Publishing Board, the council that decides the editorial policies of the whole of ACM, in recognition of the exceptional results obtained with TOSEM. "I am very happy to see that our scientific community emphasises the relevance of journal publications in our field by awarding the huge work and the excellent results of an editorial board that I had the privilege to chair in the last six years", said Professor Pezzè.
