Renewal of the Read&Publish agreements with BMJ, Frontiers, MDPI, OUP and PLOS
Institutional Communication Service
17 February 2025
The Read&Publish agreements with the scientific publishers BMJ, Frontiers, MDPI, Oxford University Press (OUP) and PLOS have been renewed. They join the ongoing ones with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), American Chemical Society (ACS), Elsevier (including Cell Press and Lancet Journals), John Benjamins, Karger, Nature, SAGE, Springer and Taylor&Francis (including Dove Press and F1000).
These agreements have been negotiated by swissuniversities and will be implemented by the USI Libraries, contributing to the Swiss National OA Strategy.
They combine access to the publishers' journals (read) with the option to publish free of charge in OA (publish) while minimising cost increases.
To learn more about the different agreements and the journals covered, you can have a look at our dedicated pages:
- Lugano Campus: https://it.bul.sbu.usi.ch/information/open_access
- Mendrisio Campus: https://biblio.arc.usi.ch/en/pubblicare_e_depositare/sostegno_finanziario
Please note that the negotiations with the publisher Wiley are still ongoing and the agreement is currently suspended. More information on the no-deal situation and its effects can be found on this page.
How to benefit from the agreements
To benefit from these agreements, the corresponding author of the paper must be a USI researcher (professor, PhD student, scientific collaborator) and have her/his main contract with USI. During the process of handling accepted articles, USI affiliation shall be indicated. We also strongly recommend using your institutional email address for article submission.
We want to take this opportunity to remind you that, in addition to managing agreements with individual publishers, USI funds the publication of Gold OA articles by its researchers when they are not already funded within an SNSF project or by other funders.
The USI Libraries can provide further information on the "read & publish" agreements and on OA publishing in general. You can gladly contact us by email at: [email protected].
