Student mobility in Ticino: a conference at USI to reflect on data and prospects

Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and the Office of Controlling and University Studies of the Department of Education, Culture and Sport (DECS) invite the population to an evening of in-depth discussion on the topic of student mobility in Ticino, including challenges, trends and implications for the region. The event "Student Mobility in Ticino: what is the role of the university sector in the Canton of Ticino?" will be held on Wednesday, 19 February 2025, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, in the USI West Campus Auditorium in Lugano.
The evening will be an opportunity to present the publication "La mobilità degli studenti universitari. Dati e riflessioni sul Cantone Ticino" (August 2024, Quaderni DCSU), which offers a detailed overview of the mobility flows of Ticino students and the role of local academic institutions in this context.
The encounter will open with institutional greetings from Marina Carobbio Guscetti, State Councillor and Director of the Department of Education, Culture and Sport (DECS). This will be followed by speeches from Giorgio Robbiani (Controlling and University Studies Office of the DECS) and Danilo Bruno (Statistics Office of the Department of Finance and Economy), who will provide insights into the data regarding the mobility of university students and graduates.
The second part of the evening will feature a round table moderated by Sandra Sain, RSI Rete Due Head of Production. The debate will be attended by experts in the field and institutional representatives:
- Luisa Lambertini, Rector of Università della Svizzera italiana
- Franco Gervasoni, General Director of SUPSI
- Luciana Vaccaro, President of swissuniversities and Rector of HES-SO
- Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, former State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation
- Filippo Contarini, Assistant Professor of History of Law at the University of Lausanne
The encounter will conclude with closing remarks by Raffaella Castagnola Rossini, Director of the Division of Culture and University Studies, summarising the main points that emerged.
The event is free, open to the public, and will end with a convivial moment.
