SEEDS Sustainability Week is approaching

From 10 to 14 March, the student association SEEDS (Students Engaged in Environment, Development and Sustainability) will organise Sustainability Week. The event is being promoted in collaboration with Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI).

During the five days, each dedicated to a different theme, numerous activities will be proposed on the USI West Campus in Lugano. Below is the programme:

Monday, 10 March: Opening of the event

  • From 12:30 to 1:30 pm: Complimentary welcome aperitif, during which Professor Sonja Hildebrand (Pro-Rector for Sustainable Transformation and Equal Opportunities), Alice Seffusatti (President of the SEEDS Association), Laura Giribaldi (Vice-President of the SEEDS Association) and Francesca Scalici (Head of the USI Equal Opportunities Service) will give an institutional welcome. The permanent exhibition organised by the Equal Opportunities Service and Profamilia will also be unveiled.
  • From 6 to 7:30 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): "Aman Iman, Images of water." Presentation and screening of the photoreportage by Bruno Zanzottera, organised by the association Il Letterificio. Poet and Professor Fabio Pusterla and anthropologist Alberto Salza will be speaking.

Tuesday, 11 March: Economics

  • From 5:30 to 7:30 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): "ESG and the future of work." The event will discuss the prospects for the financial sector in the world of work in terms of sustainability. Alessandro Sgotto (Head of Research & Development / CSR), Professor Pietro Majno-Hurst and Professor Ilaria Espa will be speaking, and the discussion will be moderated by Alice Seffusatti (President of SEEDS). An aperitif will be served at the end of the evening.

Wednesday, 12 March: Environment

  • From 12:30 to 1:30 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): the documentary "Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy" will be used as a starting point for discussion. Speakers will include Professor Edoardo Beretta, Ludovico Conti (Founder of IAMCLIMATE) and Stefano Frisoli (Director of Caritas Ticino), with Alice Seffusatti (President of SEEDS) acting as moderator. An aperitif will be offered at the end of the event.
  • From 4 pm to 7 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): ACSI Repair Café and "Swap Party". An opportunity to give new life to clothes that are no longer worn. You can bring your own unused clothes and take new ones from those brought by other participants.
  • From 4 pm to 5:30 pm and 5:45 to 7:15 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): "Upcycling: creative sewing!". Two creative sewing sessions where you can give a new life to an item of clothing you don't like but don't want to get rid of. Participants are invited to bring their clothing items, and registration is compulsory (maximum 10 participants per session).

Thursday, 13 March: Social

  • From 1 to 2 pm (L'Ideatorio, Cadro): "Galactic Lunch." An opportunity to have lunch and, in the meantime, take a trip to the astronomical planetarium to find out if there is a Planet B. Registration is required.
  • 5:30 to 7:30 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): Guided tour by Laura Semini, Pro Familia, of the photographic exhibition: "Families - exploring the past, imagining the future". This will be followed by the conference: "Birth rate, economic inclusion of women, overcoming traditional roles: the role of the state and the economy in the face of a changing society", organised by Equi-Lab and in collaboration with USI Equal Opportunities Service, during which the importance of the work-life balance and the valuing of gender differences as fundamental pillars for a sustainable and fair future will be discussed. An aperitif will be offered at the end of the event. Registration is mandatory.

Friday, 14 March: Closing of the event

  • From 12:30 to 1:30 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): Workshop "Rebuilding a sustainable world" by WWF. The workshop will offer interactive activities to reflect on basic needs and the creation of an ideal world that respects nature and biodiversity. Pizza will be served to participants; registration is required.
  • From 4:30 to 8 pm (West Campus Aula Magna): Stand & Podcast. Booths from DEC Energy, a startup from USI, The Energy Game, ImpactHub and AITI. The AIESEC association will offer an aperitif, with entertainment from Fuoricorso.

From Wednesday to Friday, there will be a special AIESEC stand for the Global Volunteering project and the Red Cross stand for the Re-fashion project. Additionally, on Wednesday, the Energy Game stand will also be present!
