As part of the Interreg Italy-Switzerland 2021-2027 call for proposals, 1st window, the project "Cross border rules on commuters between Switzerland and Italy" (CROCSIT) presented, in partnership, by the Law Institute of Università della Svizzera italiana (IDUSI) and CodeLounge Software Institute USI, SUPSI Tax & Legal Competence Centre (CCTG) and Università degli Studi dell'Insubria (Departments of Economics (DiEco) and Law), has been approved and funded.

The CROCSIT project, which started in 2025, aims to enhance the efficiency of cross-border labour management between Italy and Switzerland. This initiative focuses on several important legal areas, including taxation, social security, and immigration. These issues play a critical role in the economy of the Italian-Swiss border region, particularly in the Insubric area of the Canton of Ticino and Lombardy.

The legal framework governing cross-border work in its various aspects is complex and often uncertain. For this reason, CROCSIT aims to bilaterally identify the major issues that arise in the three areas (taxation, social security and immigration), exploring them in depth in a series of seminars designed to contribute to the training of relevant stakeholders (officials, human resources personnel, consultants, trade unions, professional associations, etc.) to reduce and/or eliminate the aforementioned legal challenges. In addition, and for the same purpose, CROCSIT intends to create a freely accessible digital platform for users to collect dissemination materials, FAQs, and best practices.

The inaugural event to present the project will be held on Friday, 14 March 2025, from 10:30 am at the headquarters of the University of Insubria in Villa Toeplitz in Varese, Via G.B. Vico.
