Martin Gjoreski, a researcher at USI Faculty of Informatics, has written the first article published by the Global SNSF Fellows Network, the network created in 2020 to bring together young researchers who have obtained a fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The contribution, published recently, offers practical advice and helpful strategies for dealing with the SNSF Ambizione call for proposals, one of the most competitive in Switzerland.

In his text, Gjoreski shares his personal experience with the application process, his selection, and the approval of his project. He emphasises the importance of strategic preparation and a well-structured research plan. Although his advice is specifically related to the Ambizione call, it can be applied to any competitive call aimed at young researchers.

The success of Martin Gjoreski represents an important milestone for USI, which in recent years has seen few researchers win the SNSF Ambizione call. From 2017 to date, the winners have been:

  • Martin Gjoreski (USI)
  • Franziska Zeuner (IRSOL)
  • William Davis (USI)
  • Cristian Mariani (FTL)
  • Francesco Costa (Cardiocentro)
  • Giulio Conte (Cardiocentro)

The Ambizione project by Martin Gjoreski focuses on using wearable sensors and artificial intelligence to monitor mental health. It was submitted in November 2022. The goal of the project is to develop intelligent systems that can detect early signs of stress, anxiety, or depression in daily life. After being selected for an interview in June 2023, the project received official funding in August 2023 and began in January 2024.
