Positive Impact Research Market (PIRM) is an initiative promoted by USI in collaboration with Impact Hub and Social Business Earth, which aims to create an online platform for applied research in sustainability, connecting students, faculty, and various professional entities (companies, startups, public administration, NGOs...). The initiative is realised with the support of the federal sustainability programme coordinated by swissuniversities.
PIRM aims to catalyse professional challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN 2030 Agenda, resolving them through applied research, with the ambition of making the University's services accessible to the economic, social, and cultural development of the region and the community.
To achieve this, organisations, starting from their specific needs, can insert their research proposals on the online CareerGate platform, which will be specifically modified. Guided by a faculty advisor, students can then select the research proposal of their interest and develop it into their Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral thesis. This initiative provides students with an opportunity for applied research while allowing professional entities to benefit from in-depth work of academic quality. The final outcome is an academically validated research thesis, accompanied by a concise project report oriented to the professional context.
