Many academic research results can have a tangible impact on the real world, but only if they are adequately protected and exploited. For this reason, it is essential that researchers at Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) report any inventions or software developed in the course of their research activities to USI Transfer.

This is done using the dedicated forms for declaring an invention or software: this step is crucial to initiate the process of evaluating, protecting and exploiting the research results. The form enables USI Transfer, the University's technology transfer service, to analyse the technical, legal, and commercial potential of the invention or software, thereby protecting intellectual property and facilitating the path towards its protection and exploitation. In the event of commercial success, according to current internal regulations, researchers are rewarded with one-third of the net proceeds generated by their inventions or software, in recognition of the value of their research.

USI Transfer provides two separate forms, depending on the type of intellectual property involved: an invention (eligible for patent protection) or software (which is protected by copyright).

Both forms are available on the USI Transfer website at the following link: https://www.usi.ch/en/innovation/innovate/usi-transfer/researchers/documents

All information will be treated as strictly confidential. USI Transfer is available to support researchers at every stage: contact us at [email protected].

Do not wait: reporting is the first step in protecting and enhancing your research.
