USI has released its third Sustainability and Environmental Impact Report, summarising the results achieved while establishing new environmental, social, and economic objectives that foster transparency and trust within the community.
The Sustainability and Environmental Impact Report is a tool used by USI to track progress and plan future sustainability initiatives. This document is concise and accessible, outlining USI's objectives and strategies across various areas. It offers transparent information to both the academic community and the public, thereby strengthening the trust between USI and the region in which it operates.
Following the first edition in 2009, which focused on administrative and management aspects, and the second in 2021, which also introduced progress in teaching and research, this third edition enables us to assess the previous situation and set new objectives for the two years 2025–2026. Section A of the Report, dedicated to teaching and research, has been expanded, while Section B, relating to operational management, now provides more detailed data, allowing for a more accurate comparison with past performance.
The document outlines the key initiatives promoted by USI in recent years. These include the SostA project launched in 2009 to improve sustainability standards on campus, the establishment of the Sustainability Commission in 2019, the creation in 2024 of the Pro-Rectorate for Sustainable Transformation and Equal Opportunities, and the inauguration of the House of Sustainability in Airolo, a new university branch for training and promoting a culture of sustainable development.
With this new edition of the Report, available here or as an attachment (Italian only), USI confirms its commitment to contributing to sustainable development that integrates environmental responsibility, social solidarity, and economic capacity, thereby strengthening the university's role in building a more equitable and conscious future.
