Professor Luca Maria Gambardella is increasing his involvement in the private sector and is therefore stepping down from his role as Pro-Rector for Innovation and Corporate Relations. He will continue as a full professor at USI.

Over the past five years, Prof. Luca Maria Gambardella, USI professor of artificial intelligence at the Faculty of Informatics, has played a key role in initiating, enhancing, and solidifying the efforts of the Pro-Rectorate for Innovation and Corporate Relations. In his capacity as Pro-Rector, he has overseen the growth of the USI Startup Centre, advanced the activities of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), and organised public events, such as "USI Incontra." Additionally, he has been responsible for fostering relationships with the local community and the business sector.

Thanks to his commitment, the academic world has become more aware of knowledge transfer and the creation of start-ups, thus strengthening the link between the university and society.

Following an intense and inspiring period, Prof. Luca Gambardella has decided to undertake a significant challenge in the private sector. He will continue to focus on his research and teaching activities at USI, but will step down from his role as Pro-Rector. Prof. Gambardella has agreed to remain in his position until 31 December 2025, or until his successor is appointed. USI expresses its sincere gratitude for his contributions, dedication, and support to the Rectorate and the Academic Senate.

We wish him great success in this new phase of his career.

USI has begun the process of identifying a successor for the position of Pro-Rector for Innovation and Corporate Relations. According to the Statutes, this individual is proposed by the Rector and appointed by the University Council.
