Institutional Communication Service
13 October 2025
A new Wetube space has been inaugurated at the USI West Campus in Lugano by RSI and USI, open to young digital creatives — a place for experimentation and training in the languages and tools of digital communication.
The opening event took place in Room A13 of the Red Building, featuring remarks by Lorenzo Erroi, Head of the Culture and Society Department at RSI, Luisa Lambertini, Rector of USI, and Andrea Sala, Head of the Digital Culture and Society Division at RSI. The speeches were followed by an interview conducted by Gabriele Balbi, USI’s Pro-Rector for Education and Student Life, with Michelangelo Cavadini, USI alumnus and digital editor for RSI’s youth programs. The event concluded with a reception and a guided tour of the new Wetube USI space, together with RSI’s digital Culture and Society team — an opportunity to meet, share ideas, and imagine new projects.
With the launch of Wetube, USI is significantly expanding opportunities for students, young researchers and teachers, by providing a space for experimentation and training in digital communication languages and tools. This new facility serves as a true creative laboratory, aimed at developing the interdisciplinary skills that are increasingly sought after in both the professional and academic spheres. Additionally, this initiative marks a significant advancement in the collaboration between RSI and USI, strengthening a partnership that creates value for the entire region and embodies the concept of the "third mandate" of universities. This concept emphasises that universities should not only educate and conduct research but also engage with and contribute to society.
Wetube is an open space at RSI where the most creative digital minds in Southern Switzerland can create, collaborate and learn together. It offers workshops, events and state-of-the-art production resources to help young content creators, podcasters, YouTubers, and passionate videomakers realise their projects.
